CONNECTRIX DS-6610B Switch

Dell EMC DS-6600B series switches include three models that can have a speed of 4, 8, 16, or 32 Gbps depending on the type of optic installed. All models of this switch can be managed with Connectrix Manager Converged Network Edition (CMCNE). The Dell EMC DS-6610B switch is designed to support SAN needs and for small and medium business environments. This switch has 24 ports and offers good and affordable performance. Its form factor is 1U and has eight active 16Gb/s optical fiber ports with the ability to connect short wave optics (SFP+). Port-on-demand (PoD) kits provide the possibility of increasing (activating) 8 ports.

• Fabric Vision: providing advanced monitoring, management, and diagnostics capabilities
• Extended Fabric: It is able to connect optical fiber with full bandwidth up to 10 km, and depending on the type of platform, it can increase this distance up to 3000 km.
• ISL Trunking: It is able to combine multiple physical links into one logical link to improve network performance and increase fault tolerance.
• Enterprise Package: Includes all of the above (Fabric Vision, Extended Fabric, and ISL Trunking).

The DS-6610B switch has two chassis models. The basic chassis includes 8 active 32Gb/s ports and 8 16Gb/s SFP ports. Eight Port On Demand ports allows the switch to support an additional 16 ports (out of a total of 24 ports). Another model, DS-6610B, which ends in “EP”, has 24 16Gb/s SFP ports and includes the Enterprise Package.

In examining the performance of the ports, it should be said that the 32 Gb/s SFP ports work at speeds of 8, 16, and 32 Gb/s and the 16 Gb/s SFP ports work at speeds of 4, 8, and 16 Gb/s. In general, this switch transfers data at a high speed with a bandwidth of 768 Gbps. The power consumption of the DS-6610B switch with 24 ports is 77 watts and it supports the frequency of 47 to 63 Hz. The chassis of this switch includes a constant power supply. Its input voltage is 90 to 264 volts with a current of 2.2 amps.

It should be noted that the DS-6610B switch has a non-replaceable power supply and the entire switch is a Field Replaceable Unit (FRU). The only FRUs on the DS-6610B switch are the SFPs.

Installation of the DS-6610B switch is very simple, and users can install it in a standard 19-inch Electronic Industries Alliance (EIA) rack.
